Do you have a mentor? Are you struggling to find one? Do you have any doubt that a mentor adds value to your professional growth? These questions (and many more) led us to talk through mentorship and what to look for in a mentor.
And, since we mention the “The 10 Commandments of Mentorship,” here they are:
- Don’t use the word ‘mentor’
- Don’t treat it like a transaction
- Show up prepared with questions
- Don’t boil the ocean in every meeting
- Ask your mentor to check your blind spots
- Look for themes and organizing principles
- Be honest and transparent
- Don’t give homework — focus on execution
- Make sure mentors are learning too
- Always have multiple mentors
